According to the North Texas Food Bank, one in six North Texans don't know where they will find their next meal. That means it is more difficult for our students, colleagues and community members to put food on the table – even though our food costs are cheaper than the national average.
Nearly half of the Dallas College student population is food insecure. In the past 30 days, these students have eaten less at meals to make their food last longer or have skipped meals entirely. Many do not know where their next meal will originate. Yet, these students return to class, complete assignments and fight to earn their education, as they sacrifice so much to be here.
The struggle regarding food insecurity is real. But we can do something to help.
