Program Mission

The mission of the Medical Front Office Assistant program is to provide a supportive environment in which students will develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes essential for successful employment in a medical front office setting, including practices, clinics and hospitals.

What is a medical front office assistant?

Medical front office assistants are healthcare workers who perform administrative or office tasks in medical facilities such as doctor’s offices and hospitals.

Unlike clinical medical assistants, front office assistants do not assist with medical procedures and are not directly involved with patient. Instead, they mainly work in the front office handling daily tasks that keep things running smoothly behind the scenes.

As a medical front office assistant, you will:

  • be the first point of contact and greet patients as they come into an office.
  • perform administrative duties such as scheduling appointments, answering phones, checking-in patients, collecting patient information, maintaining patient charts and verifying insurance information.
  • use computer and information technology skills to support the “back office” medical staff, including care providers such as doctors and nurses, so that they can function efficiently.

If you like helping people and making them feel welcome while ensuring the medical office environment runs smoothly and efficiently, then a medical front office assistant job would be the right fit for you.
