Dr. Claudia E. (Bette) Neeley-Plog
As a faculty member in Instructional Technology, Bette’s field changed rapidly over her 41 year career at El Centro College, but she kept up with the changes and helped others to do so as well. Bette worked cooperatively with District colleagues developing creative and innovative Information Technology programs and served as chair/co-chair of the District CIT Curriculum Committee for many years.
In 1975 she became IT program coordinator and helped colleagues at other DCCCD colleges establish IT programs on their campuses. As El Centro IT Institute Director, she established partnerships with IBM, Microsoft, Oracle and Cisco and developed programs to meet student and industry standards. She co-developed a Computer Literacy Course for faculty and staff.
Bette was a SACS Steering Committee member, El Centro Faculty Association President, DCCFA treasurer, received several NISOD Teaching Excellence awards, co-authored several published articles, projects, and studies, and was a State Minnie Stevens Piper Professor recipient. She established partnerships and developed training programs with the Dallas Urban League, Todd Wagner Foundation, Preservation LINK, YMCA, and the Dallas County Juvenile Department’s Youth Village.
In retirement, Bette is a member of the DCCFA, TCCTA, and Phi Delta Kappa. She is a member of the Townview Business and Management Advisory Council and maintains strong ties with the YMCA Miracles program. Bette volunteers her time to mentor new CIT/IDT program coordinators. She assists with preparation of IT marketing materials, including updates to the IT website. Bette is active in the retirees association.
