“I worked for a long time waiting tables and tending bar in Hilton Hotels, but I finally needed a grown-up’s job. I decided that the air conditioning field was pretty stable — even if times are tough, people are going to get their air conditioners fixed.
“The program was really reasonably priced, so it worked out well for me. The best part was the hands-on aspect of the program. You spend half your time in the classroom, then move to the lab. I think spending as much time in the lab as we did is the best thing for getting out in the field and working successfully.
“Without my training, I don’t know if I’d have made it through getting into this business to be a functioning member of the air conditioning field. The instructors were really good and very knowledgeable, and they were easy to get along with too. Their courses are set up so that people will really learn the things they need to know about the industry.
“The better training you have, the faster you’re able to diagnose equipment problems and get them fixed. With good training and field experience, it might take you 30 minutes to figure out what’s going on and then go about repairing it. Without proper training, you might misdiagnose problems and use the wrong parts, which could cost you time and money.
“I would have never been able to afford a more expensive school. I’m just lucky that I found one with the kind of training that I needed at a really reasonable price.”
Robert Beieler earned an Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology Residential - Technician I certificate in 2005. He began working in his current job as soon as he finished the program.
