Do you love working with your hands? Are you the kind of person who likes to build things and see concrete results?
Check out our Construction Technology program!
Construction Technology is a hands-on construction program with both residential and commercial specializations. You’ll learn how to plan, organize, solve problems and communicate well in your building projects.
You can prepare for an entry-level job in many construction areas. Or continue your education in a four-year program. Since you’ll have a foundation for other construction-related programs, you can try out various crafts to find the right fit.
Career options include positions as field engineers, estimators, building inspectors, insurance and manufacturing representatives, field supervisors, subcontractors and builders. We offer commercial or residential specializations.
Construction Management is a closely related program that can add management training to your hands-on skills. It’s one of just 11 such programs at two-year institutions in the United States accredited by the
American Council for Construction Education.
Both Construction Technology and Construction Management have increased focus on “green” building and sustainable construction practices.
Classes for all construction-related programs are held at North Lake College’s West Campus at the
DFW Education Center, 1401 N. Royal Lane, inside the DFW airport boundaries.
Workforce Solutions of Greater Dallas’s targeted occupations lists eight separate construction areas as high growth in 2016-2017. Projections include 5,240 job openings for carpenters; 3,970 openings for construction managers; and 760 openings for construction and building inspectors.
America’s Career Infonet projects job growth increase over the next decade of 28 percent for cost estimators; 20 percent for carpenters, construction workers and building inspectors; and 15 percent for construction managers. High job increase is defined as annual growth over 10 percent.
