Specific Opportunities: Keep Dallas Beautiful (KDB) provides environmental education at Dallas schools, pre-K through high school. We need volunteers to help with presentations. KDB also conducts cleanups, including the Tri-City Cleanup of Lake Ray Hubbard on Oct. 20. We need volunteers to help manage equipment, assist with registration and join the cleanup. KDB has several fire station garden projects. We need help in small groups to plant, paint, build and maintain gardens at fire stations across southern Dallas.
Potential Projects This Year: We have taken classes to a fire station an created an outdoor living space for the firefighters. We trimmed hedges, raked leaves, planted flowers, trees and vegetable gardens, painted a fence, built picnic tables and learned how to show appreciation to our first responders. These outdoor living centers have given our first responders a peaceful respite, encouraging them to get outdoors away from the toxins associated with their fire apparatus. We have also done a cleanup, MRF tour and recycling activity and discussion. Students learn the social impact and causes of litter first hand, the benefits and obstacles of recycling and their role in maximizing landfill diversion.

Description: Keep Dallas Beautiful builds resilient communities through environmental stewardship education, improving neighborhood appearance and showing our total concern for the physical and human quality we pass onto our children and the future, which has a broader impact on the quality of life in Dallas.
