Specific Opportunities: Volunteers are a valued part of our care team, which consists of medical director, nurses, nurse aides, social worker, and chaplain or spiritual counselor. Our volunteers provide a source of companionship and friendship to people in the last chapter of their lives, who often experience many lonely hours. Our volunteers tailor their visits to their classroom, work, family, and social demands, and most will visit a patient once every two weeks to once a month. The typical visit last 30 minutes to an hour.
Potential Projects This Year: A potential project would be to expose students to the needs of the aging in their community through a program of patient visitation.

Description: Harris Hospice embraces a unique approach to end-of-life care focusing on palliative care as a way to treat a terminally ill patient and their symptoms. At Harris Hospice we have a strong interest in caring for the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of our patients and their families. Our services provide our patients the spiritual and emotional support they need in times of distress, while helping their family members with grief and mourning following the death of a loved one. Our commitment to our patients and their families is to provide the highest level of comprehensive palliative medical care.
