All Meals on Wheels volunteers must be 18 or older unless accompanied by an adult. All hospice and palliative volunteers must be 18 or older.Specific Opportunities:
Meals on Wheels: Students can deliver Meals on Wheels routes any weekday they choose. Volunteers complete a brief training prior to picking up their meals at 10 a.m. Routes typically take less than two hours with 12-15 stops per route. All meals must be delivered by 1:30 p.m. There are also special projects such as Healthy Snack Bag assembly, Holiday Gift Bag wrapping and bag assembly and shelf-stable meal assembly throughout the year. Hospice & Palliative Care: Students can work in direct patient care to provide patients with friendly visits in the home, caregiver relief and assistance with errands. Students can read a book, give a hug, play music or just be there to provide companionship. Students may also work with bereavement support and provide support to families after the death of their loved one via phone calls, visits, helping with luncheons and facilitating support groups. (An additional four-hour training is required.) Students may also choose to work with administration and assist with clerical duties to offer administrative support to VNA.Potential Projects This Year:
VNA has the flexibility and adaptability to create and execute many different projects depending on the interest of the group.
