From 11:30 a.m.–1 p.m. May 1, Chancellor May will participate as a panelist in The Texas Tribune's "The Future of Workforce Is Education'"event at the Bill J. Priest Institute, located at 1402 Corinth St.
There's no doubt that students in classes all over Texas — from pre-K all the way to postsecondary — are the next generation of employees at all levels at businesses throughout the state. Our economy is among the biggest on the planet. It is surely among the healthiest, if not the healthiest, in the U.S. Unemployment is down, business activity is up and by every other metric, we have a good thing going.
To keep it going, we need to build for the future. We need to make sure we have the right people trained for the right jobs in the right industries, and it all begins with education. It's time to have a serious conversation about the challenges and promises of building the next world-beating workforce — how we give public and higher ed what they need so we give the economy what it needs and how, in the process, we set the table of opportunity for everyone in our rapidly growing, dynamically diversifying population.
Join The Texas Tribune for a conversation on developing the next Texas workforce, moderated by Texas Tribune co-founder and CEO Evan Smith.
Register to attend the event in person. The event is free and includes a light lunch.
