Climate Advocate Training
Mountain View College
Thursday, Feb. 22, 2018, from 1 - 4 p.m.
Room B149
The Training Workshop
The purpose of the training is three-fold:
- To introduce the Citizens' Climate Lobby (CCL) to Dallas County, including CCL's history, mission, methodology and legislative proposal.
- To demystify citizen lobbying.
- To immerse new volunteers in CCL values so that they begin to feel comfortable making decisions in the field.
The Agenda
As an attendee, you will learn how to increase student and higher education engagement in the political process using CCL's highly successful and proven methods, including:
- Cultivating relationships
- Conducting outreach
- Fostering civic engagement
- Obtaining endorsements
- Mentoring interns and student leaders
Also, don't forget to
register in advance. This is especially important as we anticipate groups attending the workshop together — such as student organizations and districtwide councils focused on sustainability.
The Presenters
The
Citizens' Climate Lobby (CCL) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that uses citizen engagement to bring about positive legislative change in state and national legislatures. In 2017, they were the catalyst for 1,653 lobby meetings, 72,721 letters to Congress, 4,093 published media articles and 3,247 outreach events.
Their mission is to:
- Build the political will for a livable world. CCL believes that politicians respond to political will and it's our job to build political will.
- Empower people to have breakthroughs in personal and political power.
CCL has been successful because they are respectful and collaborative. They are guided by, and always return to,
their core values. You can visit their website to
learn more about CCL.
