Julie Kavanagh, diplomat in residence for Texas for the U.S. Department of State, spoke with DCCCD students, faculty and staff, as well as students from Highland Park High School and Greenhill School, while visiting North Texas recently.
During her whirlwind tour, Kavanagh discussed her experiences as a high-level foreign diplomat in China, Russia, Taiwan, Singapore, Columbia, Brazil and Washington, D.C. She also promoted foreign service opportunities for students, faculty, administrators and others in North Texas.
The Office of Global Economic Development assisted Kavanagh by coordinating visits to Brookhaven, Mountain View, North Lake and Richland. It also arranged a meeting with DCCCD Global Citizenship Alliance alumni and her visits with students at Highland Park High School, Greenhill School High School and the Naveen Jindal School of Management at the University of Texas at Dallas.
As the diplomat in residence for Texas, Kavanagh is responsible for seeking and assisting highly motivated, talented and diverse candidates to join the Department of State through student programs, career opportunities and other employment. For her DCCCD presentation, she focused on career avenues for adults and internship opportunities for DCCCD students both at home and abroad.
Julie told students the U.S. Department of State will give extra consideration to potential candidates based on their 12 Dimensions qualifications.
