Dallas College respects the copyrights of others. The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the reproduction, distribution, and showing of copyrighted material in all formats and in all situations. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a copy or a duplicate of selected resources. However, one of these specified conditions is that the reproduction may not be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship or research."
Copyright of media resources is more narrowly defined. Use outside of a classroom context may require public performance licensing. Please consult with library or media staff regarding fair use related to specific media items.
If a user makes a request for, or later uses, the reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement. Faculty, staff and students are personally responsible for compliance. Violators of copyright laws may be subject to both civil and criminal penalties and/or disciplinary action. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a request if, in its judgment, fulfillment would violate copyright law.
