Downtown Dallas Demolition Scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 30

​Some buildings in the First Baptist Church complex will be demolished the morning of Saturday, Oct. 30, in downtown Dallas. Streets will be cordoned off, and there may be some dust in the area.

DCCCD Trustees Sworn In, Officers Elected, Chancellor’s Contract Renewed

​During the July meeting of the DCCCD board of trustees, three board members were sworn in, officers were elected, and trustees approved a new two-year contract for Dr. Wright Lassiter, DCCCD’s chancellor, with the option to renew for a third year. Release date: July 15, 2010

Former DCCCD Chancellor Bill Wenrich Dies at Age 73

​J. William (Bill) Wenrich, who elevated the Dallas County Community College District to national recognition at the turn of the 21st century and helped create the internationally acclaimed Rising Star Scholarship Program, died on Tuesday, July 6, 2010, from pancreatic cancer.

Want to Study Science, Technology, Engineering or Math? Apply for a STEM Financial Support Award - Deadline: Aug. 1

​One hundred STEM Financial Support Awards are available for eligible DCCCD students in Fall 2010. These $1,000 awards will be made in two installments of $500 (for Fall 2010 and Spring 2011).

Eastfield College, Texas A&M-Commerce Build Bridges for Students Through Dual Admission

​Under a new transfer agreement, signed on May 25, 2010, at Eastfield College, EFC students will more easily be able to transfer credits they earn from their associate degree toward a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University-Commerce. Release date: June 2, 2010

DCCCD Receives ‘AAA’ Ratings From Top Three Financial Ratings Groups

​The nation’s top three financial ratings groups — Fitch Ratings, Standard & Poor’s and Moody’s — have awarded “AAA” ratings for DCCCD’s general obligation bonds, series 2010, in the amount of $48.4 million, which will be sold on or about June 8, 2010. Release date: June 2, 2010

​Brookhaven College’s associate degree nursing program has received a full, two-year approval from the Texas Board of Nursing with a commendation; Dr. Wright Lassiter Jr. recently received the 2010 Alpha Legacy Community Service Award from the Xi Tau Lambda chapter (Dallas) of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc; and Randy Conine of Richland College was named a 2010 Minnie Stevens Piper Professor. Texas Offers $2,000 Scholarship to High School Seniors in Top 10 Percent

​If you’re a Texas high school senior ranked in the top 10 percent of your graduating class and can demonstrate financial need, you may qualify for a $2,000 scholarship to attend a Texas public college or university (which includes the colleges of DCCCD) — but you have to act fast! The deadline to apply is Monday, March 1.

Child Care: Well-Trained Teachers Protect Children, Help Parents

​Three DCCCD colleges have received a $987,302 grant titled “DCCCD Child Care Quality Initiative” from Workforce Solutions for Dallas County. The three colleges are collaborating on the grant, delivering credit and continuing education courses to individuals who already are child care providers in Dallas County.
