John Williamson began his 32-year career with DCCCD on Sept. 7, 1966, as the first Director of Admissions/Registrar at the newly opened El Centro College. In the early years, the technology was not available for the registration process. John used his innovation and creativity to help register thousands of students that entered the doors of El Centro College. He served in this capacity until June 1977 when he transferred to Cedar Valley College to assist with that campus opening.
He worked tirelessly with the founders to lay the groundwork for the "open door admission" process. Fifty years later, this process continues to afford students of all ages an opportunity to pursue the career of their dreams.
John has served as Chair of the Registration Council many times during his tenure with the DCCCD and shared his wealth of historical knowledge with colleagues at all seven campus locations. He also served for many years with the veteran population at Cedar Valley College as the VA Certifying Official.
John now enjoys spending time with his daughters and grandchildren. He is an active member of his church.
