Professional Support Staff Awardee
Working in what was then called the Data Center at Richland College, Doug adopted “new” technology to his area early, before the rest of the campus or the district did so. Doug was always looking for ways to more efficiently use personnel and resources. He developed an electronic tracking system of computer repairs that helped predict problematic areas, saving thousands of dollars and avoiding downtime. Later he developed a reporting system where support calls were collected directly into a database and support technicians could download reports and details; dispatch of support technicians became more efficient.
When Hurricane Katrina devastated the gulf coast, Doug took personal leave to move to the coast with his wife to help with recovery efforts. Doug was involved with planning and attending Renewal Week; he continues to do that in retirement. Doug is also an active member of the Rowlett emergency response team, and he recruits new members for the group. He helps at numerous community events and donates countless hours of his time to help the Rowlett community. He also donates time at Richland College to mentor those starting in the field of technical support.
