A fire captain with Dallas Fire-Rescue since 2007, Tommy Courson has also served as a lieutenant EMS supervisor, certified paramedic and driver engineer-firefighter in his professional career.

A graduate of Dallas’ W.W. Samuell High School, he attended the University of North Texas and the colleges of DCCCD, with more than 18 hours focusing on fire protection technology. He also attended the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Md.

Through the Texas Commission on Fire Protection, Courson is certified as a master firefighter, fire officer I, fire service instructor II and approved field examiner. He has also served as an adjunct faculty member for the UT Southwestern School of Health Professions, teaching basic medical care to police cadets, teaching advanced paramedic skills to paramedic students and evaluating skills performance of firefighter-paramedics. As an EMS supervisor, he supervised a team of field paramedics and planned, organized, staffed and directed EMS operations.

Captain Courson is a member of the Dallas Firefighters Association, a youth sports volunteer with the Upward Sports basketball league of Garland and Richardson, a senior citizen home care volunteer and a student ministry volunteer teacher at First Baptist Church of Garland.
