Lawrence J. Philips

Adjunct Faculty

​Captain Larry Phillips works for the Duncanville Fire Department in the roles of fire and arson investigator, acting captain, fire safety educator, fire instructor, fire equipment operator, paramedic, fire inspector, firefighter and Texas Peace Officer.

He holds a Master’s of Science degree in library science from the University of North Texas and a bachelor’s degree in rehabilitation science from the University of Texas Health Science Center in Dallas. He also holds an associate degree in journalism and broadcasting from Mountain View College. He attended the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Maryland, specializing in fire and arson investigation and plans review.

He holds the following licenses and certifications: Master Peace Officer certification by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCLEOSE); Fire Service Instructor II, issued by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP); ten seals from the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC); and is a licensed Paramedic in the state of Texas.
 
He has also served as an adjunct fire science instructor at Trinity Valley Community College in Terrell, Texas; and as an in-service training instructor of on-duty fire personnel at the Duncanville Fire Department.
