Melanie Hollis is a licensed veterinary technician (LVT) and graduated from Cedar Valley's Veterinary Technology program in 2003. She is pursuing a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in veterinary technology from St. Petersburg College in Florida.
In more than 30 years in veterinary medicine, she has worked in small animal general practice, emergency critical care, small animal internal medicine and large animal and equine practice. She has also served as an instructor of certified veterinary assisting at Collin College and the University of Texas at Arlington for five years.
She was an executive board member on the state veterinary technician association, the Veterinary Team Association of Texas (formerly TARVT), for five years. She is a member of the Association of Veterinary Technician Educators (AVTE), the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA), the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society (VECCS) and the British Veterinary Nurses Association (BVNA). She has been a guest lecturer at local and regional veterinary conferences and has served as a course moderator on the Veterinary Support Staff Personnel Network (VSPN) for six years. She was a volunteer at the Dallas Zoo for two years.
