Social Work and Substance Abuse Counseling

Director of Dallas County Health and Human Services, Zachary Thompson has served as an adjunct professor in Eastfield’s Social Work and Substance Abuse Counseling programs since 1991. He earned an associate degree from El Centro College and holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Arlington and a master’s degree from Amber University.

He has more than 25 years of experience in providing social services, managing state and federal grants and serving as a consultant to educational and community-based programs. He has served the residents of Dallas County as a group worker, education specialist, project director, HIV program monitor and deputy director. He is a licensed chemical dependency counselor (LCDC). 

Mr. Thompson serves on the North Texas Behavioral Health Authority Board of Directors and is a member of the Site-Based Decision Making Committee of the Martin Luther King Jr. Learning Center. He previously served as a member of the Texas Department of Health’s Council of Minority Health Affairs and on the Tuberculosis Funding Formula Development Committee. He received the 2009 Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance Health Care Award and was nominated for the 2008 Janet Emerson Public Health Servant Award.
