Adjunct Faculty, Social Work
An adjunct Social Work instructor at Eastfield since 2000, Valencia Hooper-Alexander also works full time as a manager in the Senior Services program with the city of Dallas
Previous work experiences include serving as project director for the Access Center for the Elderly with the Dallas Area Agency on Aging, a program of the Community Council of Greater Dallas, for nearly 10 years. She has also worked as a medical social worker at Presbyterian and Parkland hospitals, and as a consultant on elder abuse issues, hospice care and case management.
Leadership roles in community organizations include serving as past chair for the Dallas County Adult Protective Services (APS) Community Board, as president of the Dallas Chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and as one of the first state board members, as well as secretary and vice president, for the Texas Partners for Adult Protective Services (TXPAPS). She also organized the Dallas County Task Force on Hoarding and leads the current organization for the Southwest Conference on Hoarding.
She is also a member of the Texas Senior Advocacy Coalition, the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), the Dallas Gerontological Association and the Dallas chapter of the Older Women’s League. She has conducted workshops and training seminars at regional and international conferences on case management and coordination, working with difficult clients and families, hoarding behaviors and mental health and substance abuse among the elderly.
