Social Work and Substance Abuse Counseling
Phillip Ortiz has served as the program coordinator for the Social Work and Substance Abuse Counseling programs at Eastfield College since 2014, having taught full time in the programs since 2000. He holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Dallas, a master’s degree in social work from the University of Texas at Arlington and a doctorate in education (Ed.D.) from Texas A&M University-Commerce. He has been licensed as a clinical social worker (LCSW) by the Texas State Board of Social Work Examiners since 2000 and has extensive clinical experience in the areas of mental health, child welfare, family counseling, gang intervention, addictions, domestic violence and child custody disputes.
In the past, Dr. Ortiz has served as a consultant for the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, Dallas County Family Courts and several juvenile probation departments. He has also been designated as a court appointed expert clinical evaluator by the Tribunal Office of the Catholic Diocese of Dallas.
