Sharon Burton, M.B.E.

Adjunct Faculty

Sharon Burton was named the first coordinator of Medical Front Office when it officially became a program in January 2010 and served as the BOSS (Business Office Systems and Support) program coordinator from 2011 to 2015. She now serves as an adjunct faculty member of the Medical Front Office program.

She has more than 30 years experience teaching in the colleges of DCCCD and also taught at the south campus of Tarrant County College for four years. She holds a master’s degree in business education from the University of North Texas and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas.

Previous professional experience includes office administrative positions for the vice president of human resources of a petrochemical company, a retail store owner, an attorney, the IT director of a mortgage company, a utilities manager and a summer internship with a pediatrics practice.

She has served as a federal government trainer in office administration for receptionists and office staff, including teaching topics such as customer service and oral and written communications. Her experience as a faculty professional development trainer includes topics on learning styles, critical thinking, active learning and Microsoft Office Software Suite. A textbook co-author, curriculum developer and program developer, she also has experience in auditing.

She is a member of the National Business Education Association and the International Business Education Association. In addition to coordinating Brookhaven’s Medical Front Office program, she teaches Medical Office Procedures, Medical Software (Medisoft for billing and claims processing), Administrative Office Procedures, Business Math, Business Communications, and MS Office, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel and Project Management.
