Would you like to be a part of a challenging, varied medical career field that’s the fastest growing in the state? Diagnostic Medical Sonography is a good fit if you have strong organizational and multitasking skills and want a health career with high patient contact.

A diagnostic medical sonographer uses high-frequency sound waves to visualize soft tissue structures of internal organs as requested by physicians to diagnose patients. Successful students are those who are independent thinkers and who like to solve puzzles.

A Comprehensive Program

El Centro College’s Diagnostic Medical Sonography program is recognized both locally and nationally for its outstanding faculty and exemplary clinical rotations.
Students attend classroom sessions and get practical experience in the ultrasound scanning lab and through clinical rotations in area hospitals and other health-care facilities. Clinical rotations are work-based learning experiences, where you are able to practice what you've learned in a real-life setting, under the supervision of a professional.
You'll get to use a wide variety of ultrasound equipment in clinical rotations, which include a 300-plus-bed hospital, a 100-to-200-bed hospital, a children’s hospital and a specific obstetric rotation. There are oral, practical and written exams over each organ.
