Full-Time Student and Self-Employed HVAC Installer

“As a financial services professional for eight years, I advised people how to save money and put it away for college and retirement — which is easier said than done. If you don’t get guidelines on how to do that, how do you know what to do?  

“The Alternative Energy Systems class has given me so much knowledge and ideas of how to save money. It’s gone way over my expectations. Cost-effectiveness goes to finance. If you know how to do something yourself, you can save half the cost — because that’s the cost of labor. 

“This is a consuming-oriented society, but oil isn’t going to be there forever. We can’t take limited natural resources for granted. We need to educate young people, from elementary school age, in how to manage resources better.” 

Tung Thanh Duong, currently working towards an associate degree in Renewable/Sustainable Energy from Eastfield College, also earned a certificate in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology from Eastfield and works as a self-employed HVAC installer in addition to full-time studies. He also holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in finance from the University of Texas at Dallas. Originally from Vietnam, he has lived in the U.S. for 25 years. He worked as a financial services professional for eight years with New York Life before changing career paths.
