Director, Children’s Laboratory School
Eastfield College

Dr. Karen Holder became the director of the Children’s Laboratory School at Eastfield College in January 2009, having previously worked as a children’s ministry director of a large church in the metroplex. She had also worked as a mental health professional for several years, specializing in working with children, adolescents and families.

Holder graduated with honors with a bachelor’s degree in psychology, with dual minors in human resource management and sociology, from Louisiana State University-Shreveport. She received her master’s degree in marriage and family therapy, and was involved in cross-cultural programs in the United Kingdom and Mexico. She received a Ph.D. in counseling, with dual minors in educational administration and secondary and Higher education, from the University of Louisiana-Monroe.

She has worked extensively with community service programs and projects, in retail management and as a professional development event coordinator for educators in the North Texas area. She has also had experience teaching, training and mentoring students at the undergraduate and graduate level; has made presentations at local and national professional events; and continues to do training and workshops for professionals in the Dallas area.
