Program Coordinator and Faculty
Hal Spiegel teaches in the Computer Information Technology and Internet Development Technologies programs at El Centro. He earned a bachelor’s degree in recreation and parks administration from Texas A&M University and an associate degree in general studies from Victoria College in Victoria, Texas. He has also done post-graduate work at the University of North Texas. He began working for DCCCD in 1997 at the LeCroy Center for Educational Telecommunications and became a full-time faculty member at El Centro in 2002. Mr. Spiegel has also taught at Mountain View College.
Related professional experience includes a total of six years at the LeCroy Center as a project manager for distance learning systems, a Web developer and an instructional multimedia software developer. He also designed the first two Web-based graduate courses for the University of Texas at Dallas’ Master of Business Administration program using the WebCT learning system. Mr. Spiegel worked on the IBAX system at the Baylor Institute for Rehabilitation for six years as a program specialist. He is the author of “Navigating Blackboard: A Student’s Guide to Blackboard” and its sequels for Blackboard 5.0 and 6.0, student guides published by Prentice-Hall.
He has developed a number of video game development, animation and motion capture courses; oversees the Internet Development Technologies curriculum; and serves as a co-program coordinator.
Honors and awards include the El Centro Minnie Stevens Piper award and the NISOD Excellence in Teaching award.
