North Lake College

Art instructor Brett Dyer received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree cum laude from the University of Texas at Tyler in painting and printmaking; and Master of Fine Arts degree in painting and intermedia arts from Texas Woman's University in Denton, Texas.

He has been employed at North Lake College since 2012, teaching Drawing I and II, Painting I and II, Design I, Advanced Design, and Art Appreciation.  He also serves as an advisor to the WEOTA Student Art Club, as president of the North Lake Faculty Association, and as treasurer of the DCCCD Faculty Association.

Prior to teaching at North Lake, he worked as an adjunct instructor of Art at El Centro College in Dallas, Texas from 2006-2012 teaching Art History Survey I and II, Design I and II, Advanced Design, and Art Appreciation.  He also worked as an adjunct instructor of Art and as a temporary full-time Art instructor at Tarrant County College's Southeast Campus in Arlington, Texas from 2007-11, where he taught Drawing I and II, Painting I and II, Introduction to Bookmaking, Art History Survey I and II, and Art Appreciation.  He taught at Collin College in Plano, Texas, from 2010-12 as an adjunct Art instructor in Drawing I and Art Appreciation.  Brett also taught private workshops in printmaking, encaustic, painting, and drawing at various metroplex art centers such as the Dallas Arts Center, the Encaustic Center, the Visual Arts Society of Texas, Trinity Arts Guild and the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens.

Mr. Dyer exhibits his personal artwork locally and nationally at galleries and museums throughout the year and has won awards for both his art and teaching.  He was named Faculty of the Year at North Lake College in both 2017 and 2014.  He also received the President's Scholar Award at North Lake College 2015-2016, the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) Excellence Award in 2016, the John and Suanne Rouche Excellence Award in 2015, and the Excellence in Teaching for Adjunct Faculty Award 2011-2012 at El Centro College.

He maintains professional affiliations and attends functions in local and national organizations such as the Emergency Artists' Support League, the Irving Arts Association, the Dallas Museum of Art, the Texas Community College Teachers Association, the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens, and Art Connections.
