Adjunct instructor Cathy Richardson received both her bachelor’s degree in music education and master’s degree in music with a major in violin performance from the University of North Texas, where she studied violin with Robert Davidovici and Philip Lewis and worked with Anshel Brusilow in the orchestra program.

As a professional violinist, she has served as concertmaster of the Wichita Falls and Sherman symphony orchestras in Texas and the Oak Ridge, Tenn., Symphony Orchestra. She has been a full-time member of the Dallas Opera Orchestra, the Fort Worth Opera Orchestra and the Knoxville Symphony. As a substitute player, she has played with the Nashville Symphony, the Charleston Symphony, the Louisiana Philharmonic and many local orchestras such as the East Texas Symphony, the Longview Symphony and the North East Texas Symphony Orchestra.

Professional highlights include playing the concertmaster duet from Dvorak’s “Cello Concerto” with Yo-Yo Ma and a tour with Andrea Bocelli. Ms. Richardson has played in orchestras accompanying popular performers Yanni, the Moody Blues, Natalie Cole, Reba McIntire, Johnny Mathis, Bob Hope, Dionne Warwick, Three Dog Night, Betty Buckley and Diana Ross. She is also a member of the band at Casa Mañana Theatre.

Ms. Richardson currently divides her time between working as a freelance musician and teaching. She teaches violin, viola and string methods at Austin College in Sherman and music appreciation, violin and viola at Cedar Valley College. She coordinates the college’s first String Ensemble, which made its debut in spring 2009.
