Mary Elizabeth Parra earned a Master in Business Administration degree from Texas Tech University in Lubbock and a Bachelor of Journalism degree from the University of Missouri. Her extensive professional background spans four industry sectors in various leadership roles in banking, global IT consulting and project management, nonprofits and higher education. She is a published writer and editor of organizational publications, both in print and on the Web. A former dean of distance learning and communication, she received the DCCCD's LeCroy Center “Excellence in Teaching Award for Adjunct Faculty” in 2004-2005. 

For more than 20 years, Ms. Parra has served the Dallas community as a volunteer for organizations with missions in public education, social services and the performing arts. Her volunteer career includes serving on four nonprofit boards with experience in nonprofit leadership, fundraising, grant writing, program management and strategic initiatives. She also serves on the board of a Texas Tech University chapter of a national sorority. 

In addition to her role as an adjunct faculty member at Eastfield College for the past seven years (with 22 years total working in the DCCCD), she is a higher education consultant for a nationwide teacher and faculty development organization that promotes student success for ages kindergarten to college. 

A former “military officer's brat,” she lived in and traveled across five continents before the age of 16.
