Frequently Asked Questions about Online Learning

Top Five Frequently Asked Questions About eCampus

1. What is eCampus?

Think of eCampus as a virtual campus — a web-based learning system and electronic community center for students and faculty. This customizable, secure portal offers courses, collaboration and communication tools, assessment features and access to a vast array of teaching and learning resources.

Here are some examples of what you’ll find on eCampus:

  • Announcements from your professors
  • Chat rooms
  • Course content
  • Course syllabi
  • Library resources
  • News media resources
  • Online courses

If a class has an eCampus component, it will be listed as an eCampus class under the class details on My Class Schedule.

2. Do courses offered through distance learning transfer to other colleges?

A distance learning college course will transfer under the same conditions as a campus-based classroom section of the same course. Dallas College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. It is very important that you check with the college or university you wish to transfer your course credit to prior to enrolling.

3. Do I ever have to come to campus to complete an online class?

Courses that are designated as OL do not require on-campus visits. However, off-campus proctored exams may be required. See the proctor testing page for more information

4. How do I register online?

To register online, you must be able to log in to eConnect and have:

  • An academic standing of "GOOD."
  • No restrictions, blocks or holds on your student record.
  • A TSI (formerly TASP) status of exempt, waived or complete.

Note: Even if you meet eligibility requirements for registering online, you may not be able to register for all desired courses due to prerequisite requirements.

Exception: Students who reside outside of Texas or outside the United States AND who are taking only distance learning courses are exempt from these criteria.

If these criteria do not apply to you, please go to the Admissions/Registrar office at your preferred campus to complete your registration process.

If you are not sure if you meet this criteria, please visit this page and select "I do not know" from the drop-down box.
