The Mountain View Music program offers the following music ensembles.
Choir: Open to all students, regardless of their musical background. The choir performs music from a variety of genres, from popular music to traditional choir, representing the literature of the great eras of music history. No audition is required. This course may be repeated for credit.
Chamber Singers: Activities include study and performance of specialized choral literature suitable for more advanced students. The repertoire includes a variety of advanced chamber choir music and other genres. Audition required. This course may be repeated for credit.
Guitar Ensemble: Music composed and arranged for a guitar ensemble is performed. Works for a guitar and a different instrument, or for a guitar and voice, are also performed. Audition required. This course may be repeated for credit.
Chamber Ensemble: A group of instrumentalists read and perform literature for a small ensemble. All instruments are welcome to join. Students must be proficient in performing a musical instrument. Audition required. This course may be repeated for credit.
Digital Music: Digital Music is a group of chamber instrumentalists who read and perform literature for small ensembles. This class has an emphasis on performing digital music using virtual instrument technology. The class will explore all of the capabilities of the iPad to create music using virtual instrument software. iPads will be provided for this ensemble. Students interested in being part of this group must have a basic knowledge of music notation and rhythm. This course may be repeated for credit.
Latin Band: This course explores original Latin American jazz genres and their corresponding performance practices through the arrangement and performance of masterpieces from both popular and artistic repertoires. Students should be proficient in performing an instrument or in vocal performance. This course may be repeated for credit.
Mariachi: Music composed and arranged for a mariachi ensemble is performed. Works for a traditional mariachi ensemble, with all of its instrument and voices, are also performed. This course may be repeated for credit.
