History at Brookhaven

Taking history classes at Brookhaven is an affordable way to get started on a path to a brighter future. Whether you’re taking classes to transfer to a four-year college or university, or for personal enrichment, our curriculum will give you the foundational skills you need.

"History, if thoroughly comprehended, furnishes something of the experience which a man would acquire who should be a contemporary of all ages and a fellow citizen of all peoples." —Joseph Roux

The study of history provides an opportunity to better understand ourselves as individuals, families, citizens and members of a global community. In learning about our individual and collective pasts, we not only celebrate our uniqueness, but we also recognize what philosopher David Hume noted as one of the greatest values of historical inquiry: "the discovering of the constant and universal principles of human nature."

Regardless of when or where we look, the past is not as foreign or unimportant to us in the present as we often think.

Able to be taken in any order, our classes cover a broad range of historical eras, peoples, cultures, countries and civilizations. For more information about the History Department, follow us on Facebook.
