Why Study Geology?
Geologists study the Earth and how its many systems work together. This science also looks at the history of the Earth and how its systems have functioned and changed over the planet’s history.
Items in the news often have an impact on — or are impacted by — the study and understanding of the Earth’s geology.
What does climate change really mean?
Where are we finding resources for energy?
Where will we find enough water in the future?
These are just some of the questions and issues that scientists, newsmakers and politicians bring up that are directly related to geology.
The Geology Department at Brookhaven offers courses for science majors and non-science majors. We offer daytime, evening, online and hybrid courses to meet student needs. Faculty members are professional geologists with real-world experience in geology. Because geology is the
study of the Earth around us, the Geology Department can offer students
opportunities for field trips and field study as well.
