Visual Art

The Eastfield Department of Visual Art is a multidisciplinary program offering a variety of Freshman and Sophomore level courses for students seeking to transfer to four-year institutions. Students enrolled in lecture and studio courses in the visual art department learn from faculty who are invested in their own studio art practice and engage in scholarly research to further inform their teaching methods.

Art courses at Eastfield build on traditional art practices through the introduction of technology and new media into course methodology. Each course includes cooperative learning through peer group projects and individual investigations of materials and concepts. These instruction methods are complemented by art historical research, field studies at art institutions, contemporary exhibitions in the Eastfield Galleries, the Eastfield Permanent Art Collection, and lectures and workshops by visiting artists.

New Design Foundations program: The Eastfield Department of Visual Art announces an intensive 16-week immersion in design for studio artists and designers. Students who participate in this program will enroll in both Design l and Design ll. Occupying three studio classrooms, students will create two and three-dimensional works that develop design, construction, and conceptual skills.
