Building a More Accessible Network

6/27/2018

Dallas College strives to create and sustain an environment that is inclusive to all members of the Dallas College community. I am pleased to share with you my support and enthusiasm for the Dallas College's Accessibility Task Force (login required). The Task Force is charged with ensuring compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and Sections 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.

The Task Force comprises representatives from every location, the Office of the General Counsel, Human Resources, and the Chancellor's Office. Over the next several months, this team, along with an external auditor, will assess Dallas College's digital tools and content (including all internal and external online content), as well as the needs and practices of Dallas College's multiple locations.

The Task Force will also develop and propose policies and procedures related to the accessible and functional use of electronic information, materials, technology and digital curriculum across Dallas College.

Your support is essential and will help create an environment that provides the broadest possible community participation in the mission of the college.  With your support, this effort can be brought forward thoughtfully, integrating accessibility and universal design principles into our work cycle and teaching practices, while exploring and adopting innovative approaches that are responsive to the needs of all members of the Dallas College community.

I am sure you share my commitment to accessibility. Therefore, I am asking that you not only reinforce that commitment by supporting the work of the Task Force but also that you do your part to help the Task Force realize, sustain and advance its mission.

Best,
Joe May
