Assessment and other Exams Offered

Placement Testing

North Lake and other Texas public colleges and universities will begin using the new TSI Assessment Test for placement on August 26, 2013. Accuplacer, THEA and Asset tests will no longer be used. The change has been initiated by legislature approval of the 2012-1017 Statewide Developmental Education Plan.

What the changes mean for you...

These changes do not affect students who tested and registered prior to August 22, 2013. Students who have tested prior to or on August 22, but are not registered by August 22, will be required to retest on the new test. The new test will be required for all students testing after that date.

Along with the new exam, students will be required to participate in a mandatory Pre-Assessment Activity prior to testing. Dallas College students will log into their eConnect account and find the Pre-Assessment Video under the Prepare to Register section. This video is designed to help students understand the importance of the test, offer practice sample questions and introduce course options and available resources. Students are encouraged to take advantage of the preparation offered through the Pre-Assessment Activity as this test will determine the student’s eligibility for entry-level college courses.

After completing the Pre-Assessment Activity (PAA), the eConnect system will indicate that the PAA requirement has been met. Then the student will be able to go to either an enrollment service representative in Admissions or to an academic advisor to receive the testing referral. The test is free the first time and retesting is $10 per section.
