College Work-Study Programs

College Work-Study is a need-based financial aid program that provides part-time jobs for eligible students to earn money to pay for educational expenses.

College Work-Study programs available to students at Dallas College are funded by the U.S. Department of Education and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. College Work-Study jobs are available for on-campus and off-campus positions.

Note:  Although a work-study award will appear on your award letter, funds must be earned. Funds earned are paid directly to you, monthly, and are not credited to your student account.

Types of College Work-Study Programs

Federal Work-Study (FWS)

The Federal Work-Study (FWS) program is a need-based financial aid program. It provides funds that students earn through part-time employment to help pay the costs of their educational expenses.

Have a completed Financial Aid file and be awarded for other aid if applicable
Meet the Satisfactory Academic Progress standards set by Dallas College
Be enrolled and certified in at least six hours (half time) for Fall and Spring. If attending summer semesters, you must be enrolled in at least one hour.
Be a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen
Have no prior institutional balance or blocks

Texas College Work-Study (TCWS)

The purpose of the TCWS program is to provide part-time employment to eligible students with financial need. These positions are funded by a combination of state appropriations and funds from employers.

Be classified by the Admissions Office as a Texas resident (DACA, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, recipients are eligible). Undocumented students who graduated from a Texas high school or earned a GED (General Educational Development) diploma in Texas must have authorization to work in the United States.
Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Texas Application for Student Financial Aid (TASFA). U.S. citizens or eligible noncitizens complete the FAFSA, and undocumented students who graduated from a Texas high school or earned a GED diploma in Texas complete a TASFA.
Be registered with Selective Service, or be exempt
Meet the Satisfactory Academic Progress standards set by Dallas College
Have financial need through financial aid application process
Be enrolled in an eligible program for at least six credit hours in a plan leading to a degree or certificate
Not be a recipient of an athletic scholarship (i.e., the student is obliged to play an intercollegiate sport as a condition of receiving the scholarship) during any semester TCWS is awarded
Not be enrolled in a seminary or other program leading to ordination or licensure to preach for a religious sect or to be a member of a religious order
Pass a criminal background check if required

Texas Work-Study Student Mentorship Program

The purpose of the Work-Study Student Mentorship Program is to provide employment to eligible students with financial need to mentor, tutor or advise students at participating institutions of higher education or high school students within local school districts and nonprofit organizations. The primary goal of the program is to improve and increase student access, success and completion of higher education and to provide employed WSMP students with an opportunity to gain and strengthen career-readiness skills. These student mentor, tutor and advising positions are funded by a combination of state appropriations provided by the Texas College Work-Study (TCWS) program and matching funds from participating institutions.

Be classified by the Admissions Office as a Texas resident (DACA recipients are eligible). Undocumented students who graduated from a Texas high school or earned a GED diploma in Texas must have work authorization to work in the United State to be eligible for Texas Work-Study.
Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Texas Application for Student Financial Aid (TASFA). U.S. citizens or eligible noncitizens complete the FAFSA, and undocumented students who graduated from a Texas high school or earned a GED diploma in Texas complete the TASFA.
