Our three program paths feature classroom instruction, hands-on participation and work-related experience to prepare you for three food service careers:

  • Bakery/Pastry will prepare you to work in bakeries, pastry shops, hotels, country clubs and in-store bakeries.
  • Culinary Arts will help you develop the skills necessary to work in a variety of culinary-related positions.
  • Food and Hospitality Service will train you to work in a wide variety of food service positions, from a small coffee shop to a large hotel.

Why is This a Good Career Bet?

The Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex’s thriving tourist and convention businesses create strong demand for qualified personnel in a competitive food and hospitality industry. 

America’s Career Infonet projects job growth of 19 percent for chefs and head cooks, 17 percent for food service managers and 13 percent for supervisors of food service workers over the next decade. High job growth is defined as an annual increase of more than 10 percent.

Degree and Certificate Options in the Food and Hospitality Institute

El Centro College is the only college of DCCCD that offers the Food and Hospitality program. There are three specialized food service careers:

  • Culinary Arts
  • Bakery/Pastry Arts
  • Food and Hospitality Service
