Dr. LaTrica Rhynes began teaching Gerontology courses in Eastfield’s Social Work program in 2002 and has taught courses including Introduction to Gerontology, Aging and Mental Health, Psychology of Aging and a Special Topics course designed to better understand the aging population. She holds a managerial position with the city of Dallas in its Senior Services division.

She holds a Ph.D. in gerontology from the University of North Texas, a master’s degree in gerontology from Baylor University, and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Texas at Dallas.

Her background in gerontology, the study of old age and the process of aging, includes experience in elder abuse, mental health, senior centers, older adult program design and case management.

Ms. Rhynes has assisted in program planning with the National Council on Aging in Washington, D.C., and has written and managed several grants providing intervention assistance in cases of elder abuse. She has served on advisory committees for organizations such the Senior Companion Advisory Committee, the Elder Abuse Coalition and the Mental Health Association. She received the Excellence in Teaching Award for adjunct faculty from Eastfield College in 2007.
