Art Programs Coordinator and Art Faculty North Lake College
Marty Ray received a bachelor’s degree from East Texas State University and a Master of Fine Arts degree from Southern Methodist University. She has taught art at North Lake since 1978. In 1994, concerned that art students lacked learning opportunities with new computer graphic technology, she coordinated the first art/computer graphics classes at North Lake. In 1996, she received DCCCD’s Innovator of the Year Award for creating a team-taught venture between art and technology that ultimately led to the current Computer Graphics degree and certificate program.
In 1998, Ms. Ray received the highest award for DCCCD faculty, the Miles Production Co.’s Minnie Piper Stevens Professor of the Year Award, presented at the district’s annual conference. She teaches 3-D design, sculpture and ceramics and serves as faculty advisor for the Art Department, co-sponsors the college art club and coordinates North Lake’s art schedule and 3-D area. She is active in the arts community as a founding member of the Emergency Artists Support League (EASL) and coordinates the annual White Rock Lake Art Studio Tour. Ms. Ray continues to be a strong advocate for the Computer Graphics program at North Lake and serves on the program’s advisory committee.
