“I had one drafting course in high school, and then I got hired as an apprentice draftsman at Lone Star Gas in 1972. Over the years, I’ve worked my way up to where I am today.
“I first took CADD courses at Eastfield back in 1972, and Micheal Hutchins was my first teacher. I’ve been in the gas industry doing CADD-related work for going on 40 years, although now I oversee more than I do actual drawings.
“I’ve always used drafting in my job, since we draw land-based detailed drawings of installations. I’ve taken all kinds of CADD courses at several DCCCD colleges over the years, and they’ve all helped me.
“I like what I do. I’ve had the opportunity to help hire a new employee for Atmos from Eastfield’s program and been on Eastfield’s CADD Advisory Committee going on 14 years.”
Robert McKay has accumulated 52 hours of college credit hours from Eastfield, Mountain View and Cedar Valley Colleges in various general and CADD courses.
