If you’ve got the inclination to draw, design, problem-solve and create order, think about a career in Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD).
CADD is used in product, architectural, graphic and engineering design, in industries as varied as aerospace engineering, landscape architecture and jewelry design. The technology helps designers prepare drawings, specifications, parts lists and other elements using specialized computer programs.
You'll learn to prepare the kind of technical drawings used to build everything from manufactured products — such as toys, toasters, industrial machinery and spacecraft — to structures such as houses, office buildings, and oil pipelines. The need has never been greater for workers with computer-aided design skills.
Workforce Solutions of Greater Dallas’s targeted occupations this year projects high growth for machinists, with 2,870 openings at an average salary of $17.72 per hour and 850 openings for CNC (computer numerically controlled) machine operators at $14.94 per hour.
America’s Career Infonet projects job growth of 55 percent for CNC programmers, 25 percent for electro-mechanical technicians and 20 percent for engineering technicians over the next decade. High job growth is defined as an annual increase of more than 10 percent.
