(DALLAS) — Diana Flores, a member of the Dallas County Community College District board of trustees, recently received the 2003 Meritorious Service Award from the Texas Association of Chicanos in Higher Education during the group's annual conference in Austin this January. The award, presented during a special reception to acknowledge higher education trustees and regents, honors Flores' outstanding service to Hispanic students in higher education.
Flores, who received a standing ovation when the award was announced told participants at the district's last trustees meeting in February that she had received the award on behalf of DCCCD administrators, faculty, students and staff who have given her their help and support.
Flores represents District 6 and serves as chair of the board's audit committee; she previously served as a member of the planning and budget committee. Flores was elected in 1996, and her term expires in 2008. She is an educational resources consultant and holds a bachelor's degree from Dallas Baptist University.
Flores' civic and professional activities include service as a board member for TACHE; member of the Association of Latino Community College Trustees; volunteer for Campfire Boys/Girls and Girl Scouts; board member for the Latino Cultural Center for Arts and Letters; member of the Hispanic Women's Network of Texas; and others.
