The instructor is considered a college official and has the ability to check on his students's grades, dates of attendance, degree received or any other information he feels will aid him in writing a letter of recommendation.
The instructor may have access to the student's academic record through Datatel Colleague or the Office of Registrar may release information if the instructor states how he intends to use the information.
Armed with the student's academic record, the instructor is ready to write his recommendation. He can give a great character reference from his own personal experiences with the student. However, he cannot release information from the student's education record to anyone off campus without the student's written release.
