  1. Understanding the Texas Award For Performance Excellence and Baldrige in Education self-assessment process.

Team Process:

  • Divide into seven teams; each with a workshop facilitator
  • Each team will be assigned one of the seven Texas Award For Performance Excellence and Baldrige in Education criteria to address in their analysis
  • All teams will be given the same two case studies, i.e. Richland College and Brazosport Independent School District Award applications
  • Each team will draw comparisons between the two applications
  • Each team will address the following question:

"What was the institution's approach to the criteria? How was it deployed? How did they document their results? Were there best-practices? What were some opportunities for improvement? What can we learn from these two schools to guide our design of a self-assessment model that would allow us to write an application a year from now?

Participants will gain a working knowledge of the mechanics of develop a self assessment using the Texas Award For Performance Excellence and Baldrige in Education criteria.

Participants will be able to distinguish between institutional audits, assessments and benchmarking processes.

Participants will have a greater appreciation for the systemic approach to institutional self-assessment inherent in the Texas Award For Performance Excellence and Baldrige in Education criteria.

Participants will have a greater knowledge

of the self-assessment process through the case study analysis of two award applications from Quality Award educational winners.

Participants organized into seven teams corresponding to the seven Baldrige in Education criteria.

Each team will be assigned a workshop facilitator.

Each team will conduct an analysis of the case studies around one of the Texas Award For Performance Excellence and Baldrige in Education criteria.

The team will make a report to the group.

  • Give us a brief description of the standard you were addressing;
  • Post a flipchart sheet with bullets of the approach, deployment, results.
  • Where were there potential best practices and also opportunities for improvement
  • Consensus score for the institution on that particular criterion assigned.

  • Conduct a presentation
  • Gather input
  • Organize that input into a short report

E-mail the report to the Project coordinator for posting on the project website and an upcoming virtual discussion.

Participants will be able to organize and present an information sharing session at their institutions to begin the conversations toward implementing a self-assessment process using the Texas Award For Performance Excellence and Baldrige in Education Criteria. Discussion; go over the materials.
