Effective September 1, 1992, all employees of public community colleges and junior colleges and senior institutions, including the DCCCD , were required to enroll in a statewide benefits program administered by Employees Retirement System of Texas (ERS).

All employees of public community colleges, junior colleges and senior institutions, including the DCCCD , were required to enroll in a statewide benefits program administered by Employees Retirement System of Texas (ERS). DCCCD employees are encouraged to maintain all current enrollment information and plan description materials that are generated by ERS or insurance carrier. Comprehensive Medical Insurance Program

Health Select
Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Texas

Employee and Dependent(s)

Eligible on first day of the month after 90 calendar days of active employment, otherwise evidence of insurability may be required.

Employee premium is funded by the State.

Dependent(s) premium(s) are funded 50% by the State and employee pays 50% of pre-taxed premium.

Employee may automatically be enrolled in the Medical Plan on the first day of the month after 90 calendar days of active employment.

Dependents must be enrolled by the employee by the 91st day of employment, otherwise evidence of insurability may be required.

State Kids Insurance Program (SKIP) Same as comprehensive medical. Employee may apply for additional state funds at any time during the plan year to pay for child(ren). Employee may add SKIP approved child(ren) to medical insurance at a reduced premium rate.
Basic Group Term Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment
Eligible on first day of the month after 90 calendar days of active employment.
No cost to employee.
Employee may automatically be covered for $5000 Basic Group term Life and $5000 Accidental Death and Dismemberment.
Dental Plans

Indemnity or Dental Maintenance Organization

Eligible on date of hire.

Must be enrolled within 30 calendar days of date of hire or during ERS Summer Enrollment.

Dental premiums are paid pre-tax by the employee, including dependent coverage.

Indemnity Plan - May see any Dentist; eligible dental work covered. Benefits increase during the first 3 years of enrollment.

DMO - Must live in service area and select from the list of approved Providers. Eligible dental work covered with employee paying applicable co-payments.

Optional Group Term Life

Eligible on date of hire for 2 times annual base salary within the first 30 days of hire.  May apply through evidence of insurability for up to 4 times annual base salary.

Otherwise, proof of insurability is required.

Premium amount is based on age and level of coverage paid pre-tax by employee.
Amount purchased paid to the employee's designated beneficiary.
Dependent Term Life

Eligible on date of hire.  Eligible dependents must be enrolled within 30 calendar days of active employment.

Otherwise, proof of insurability is required.

Paid pre-taxed by employee.
$5000 of life insurance and $5000 of accidental death and dismemberment for covered dependent(s).

Voluntary Accidental Death and Dismemberment

Eligible on date of hire. Must be enrolled within 30 calendar days of date of hire, including family coverage, otherwise during ERS Summer Enrollment.

Premiums is based on the amount of coverage. Paid pre-taxed by employee.
Purchased amount is paid to the employee or beneficiary in the case of accident of death.
Short-Term Disability
Administered by Group Life and Health

Eligible on date of hire.  Must be enrolled within 30 days of date of hire, otherwise evidence of insurability may be required.

 

Post taxed premium is based on salary level of employee.
After 30 calendar day waiting period during total disability and the exhaustion of all paid sick leave approved benefits may be paid at 60% or $1800, whichever is less, for a maximum of 5 months.
Long-Term Disability
Administered by Group Life and Health

Eligible on date of hire.  Must be enrolled within 30 calendar days of employee's eligibility.

Otherwise, proof of insurability is required.

Post taxed premium is based on salary level of employee.
After a 90 calendar day waiting period during total disability and the exhaustion of all paid sick leave approved benefits may be paid at 60% or $6000, whichever is less. Maximum benefit based on total disability and age. Other guidelines may apply.

TEXFLEX

Health Care and/or Dependent Care Reimbursement Accounts

Eligible on date of hire. Must be enrolled within 30 calendar days of date of hire, otherwise during ERS Summer Enrollment.
Under IRS Guidelines, allows employee's pre-tax contributions up to $555 per month.
Allows reimbursement for health care and/or child care expenses from the employee's reimbursement account.
Accelerated Life
Eligible on date of hire.
 Must be enrolled in Optional Term Life.
Effective on 9/1/95, an active employee on approved leave without pay, with a qualified illness may apply for 50% of their Optional Term Life Insurance, up to a maximum of $100,000.
COBRA
Continuation of Benefits
Eligible on date of hire.
Paid by qualified beneficiary.

Under COBRA an employee may continue medical and/or dental for a maximum of 18 months due to termination, other guidelines apply for employees and dependents.

 

HIPPA Eligible on date of hire. No cost to employee. Under HIPPA every insurance participant who loses insurance medical coverage must be provided a "Credibility Certificate of Coverage".

Long Term Care Insurance for Employees/Spouses/ Others

 

Eligible on date of hire. Must be enrolled within 30 calendar days of date of hire, otherwise evidence of insurability may be required.

Paid by the employee, spouse or other member of the family directly to the insurance carrier.
Provides assisted living, social and related support services when an employee or family member can not perform normal daily activities due to illness or disability.
