DCCCD BOARD OF TRUSTEES’ INDICATOR REPORT
2001 - 02 Economic Development

Goal 6: The DCCCD in partnership with business, industry, and governmental entities prepares a quality workforce to enhance economic development.

The following indicators provide an overview of business-related contract training:

-- number of people trained, contract training hours provided,
-- number of firms entering into contracts, and
-- contract revenue received.

By completion of these contracts and grants, almost $10,000,000 in training will have been provided to area businesses. This market driven training is in direct response to immediate business needs and varies greatly from year to year.

Business-funded training is standard or customized training paid for by a business/employer. During 2000-01, DCCCD colleges contracted with 304 businesses to provide training to 31,921 individuals in both credit and continuing education formats.

As a reminder, contract and grant amounts under-estimate total income since most training also generates state reimbursable contact hours. Depending on the training involved, a grant may produce contact hour reimbursement from one half to two thirds above the grant amount. Also, businesses often invest in training partnerships with significant in-kind resources such as training facilities, instructor time, equipment and materials that are not represented in the revenue amount.
