Goal 4: Distance LearningDCCCD will use existing and emerging telecommunication technologies to provide convenient and flexible access to accredited and life-long learning opportunities to students and workforces.
Distance learning includes televised live classes, telecourses,
telecourses with an internet component and courses delivered entirely over
the internet. DALLAS Telecollege consists of courses which students may
register for on the internet. These courses are predominantly offered via
the internet.
District-wide Indicators:
Recent growth in distance education is attributed to increasing enrollments in courses delivered over the internet. In 1998-99, on-line instruction accounted for 25% of all distance learning enrollments.
Approximately 56% of the grades for 1998-99 telecourses were completion
grades (A, B, C, D, E and F) and 43% were successful completion (A, B or
C) grades.
Internet course completion rates were somewhat higher with 63% completion and 50% successful completion grades awarded.
An estimated 6,000 students enrolled in some form of distance learning
in 1998-99 and 82% of those students had an in-District residency status.

Note: Enrollments reflect the number of courses in which students are enrolled. For example, one student taking two classes would be equivalent to two enrollments.
