District Indicators
Distance learning includes televised live classes, telecourses,
telecourses with an Internet component and courses delivered entirely over
the Internet. Courses taught in a distance learning format are available
through each of the seven colleges as well as the Dallas TeleCollege1.
Beginning with this report, 9662 continuing education distance
learning enrollments are also included in the total enrollments3.
Enrollments in credit distance learning courses increased dramatically (48%) over the prior year. Telecourse, etc.4 enrollments, which had declined in previous years, increased 47% and the credit Internet course growth trend continued (51% over 1999-2000).
Over 10,000 students enrolled in distance learning in 2000-01. While
most also enrolled in campus-based courses, an estimated 23% were solely
at a distance. One-third (up from last year’s 20%) of credit distance learning
students had an out-of-District5 residency status and 94% of
the 480 continuing education students were out-of-District.
