Dallas County Community Colleges Student Emergency Need Scholarship

Foundation Award Guidelines

The DCCCD Student Emergency Need Scholarship Fund was established to provide immediate financial support for DCCCD students and potential students, designated by the Chancellor and Foundation who have been adversely affected by natural disasters, experiencing temporary financial setbacks. An award from this fund does not require repayment and should not be considered a loan.

Amount of Award
Not to exceed $200 per semester per student if the financial need was not created by natural disasters. {If the financial need is determined to have been created by a natural disaster the amount of the award (based on availability of funds) could amount to the total amount needed to pay for books and tuition}.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must be DCCC students currently experiencing urgent financial needs that affect their ability to attend and succeed in college. Funds will be used to assist with the payment for tuition and books.

Application Process
Out-of-state Student Application Process
(Applies to out-of-state, international and in-state (TX) students that formerly enrolled in colleges in states affected by Hurricane Katrina, states include Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana.)

  • The applicant must submit a complete DCCC Foundation Student Scholarship Application Form and write a brief statement describing their financial need to the Financial Aid office at the campus they are attending.
  • All applicants must complete the FAFSA or if the student is undocumented, then the campus financial aid department must do a Budget Analysis (by completing the FAFSA, for Financial Aid Office use only) to determine the student need.
  • The College Financial Aid Office will approve and determine financial need.
International Student Application Process
  • The International Student Advisor’s department at each location must submit recommendation(s) to the financial aid department to assist students who were affected by the tsunami tragedy.
  • The applicants must submit a complete DCCC Foundation Student Scholarship Application Form and a write a brief statement describing their financial need to the International Advisor at the campus they are attending.
  • The student, the International Advisor and the campus Financial Aid Director/Coordinator, must sign the DCCC student application form.
  • All applicants must complete the FAFSA or if the student is undocumented, then the campus financial aid department must do a Budget Analysis (by completing the FAFSA, for Financial Aid Office use only) for the International Student to determine need.

General Student Application Process
Applicants must submit a complete DCCC Foundation Student Scholarship Application Form and a brief statement describing their financial need to the Financial Aid Director at the college they are attending. Applicants must complete an application for Federal Student Aid and submit it to the Financial Aid Office of the college they are attending.

Selection Process
In 2005, priority will be given to students affected by natural disasters including Hurricane Katrina and the tsunami in Southeast Asia. The fund priorities are subject to change by direction of the DCCC Chancellor and Foundation Board Chairman. Financial Aid Director/Coordinator at each college will be responsible for submitting the completed student DCCC application form to the DCCC Foundation for final approval.
